Mother and Child Development Center (MCDC) is a Rwandan local non-profit, non-partisan, Non-governmental Organization (NGO) that was founded in the late 2012 with a vision to give equal opportunity to poor women and their children. MCDC is committed to empowering women and children to realize their full potential, worth, and strength socially, economically and literally through advocating for opportunities that explore their potential.
The idea of Mother and Child Development Centre (MCDC) was inspired by the background and experiences of the founding members, Mrs. Alice Ingabire and Mrs. Hope Mbabazi who not only believed in Giving back to the society but were also touched by the way fellow women “abanyagataro” street hawkers lived a tough life while trying to make a living running up and down with their children strapped on their backs or left home alone without any attendant exposed to child rights violations.
MCDC’s determination is to empower women, children and advocate for their rights so as to break the vicious circle of poverty and the frequent rights abuse. To achieve its objectives, it created programmes for women and children empowerment which included income generating activities, entrepreneurial skills training, a daycare program for their children to cushion them against the harsh conditions, and Counseling
