Am Jacqueline and I joined MCDC groups in 2020, this was after my husband's passing. It was a decision that I initially hesitated to make.
However, one of my daughters encouraged to join the groups, which I did by starting with 2 shares per week, I started my journey by receiving an initial loan of 50,000frw. This enabled me to kickstart a cabbage cultivation business, a venture that proved highly profitable. I diligently repaid the group loan and gained confidence while connecting with other members.
Despite COVID-19 disruptions in 2020, I adapted, expanding my plot and experimenting with potato and bean farming alongside cabbages. In 2021, with a 200,000frw loan, I invested in a cow, which now provides milk for sale and home consumption. My income steadily grew, allowing me to make household improvements.
I managed to pay off the loans and took another loan of 250,0000 RWF and used it to construct a kitchen because I did not have one, renovated my house, and even installed electricity in the house.
Today, I am no longer a lonely widow but a part of a thriving community, making progress together day by day. I can afford quality clothing, feed my home 3 meals per day, pay for our health insurance, pay my child's school fees, and my farming projects continue to flourish. My savings have increased to 3,000-5,000frw per week. Thanks to MCDC, I have built long-lasting connections in the group, gained self-esteem and acquired the high spirit of working hard to gain financial independence.
