I joined the MCDC group in 2020 after receiving information from the village leadership about an opportunity for women to improve their livelihoods through the program. When I joined the group, I started saving one thousand Rwandan Francs per week because I realized the importance of savings, and my life was not progressing well economically due to the expenses of raising my children.
The group has been incredibly helpful to me. I received my first loan of 25,000 Rwandan Francs, which I invested in buying eight goats. After two months, I sold them for 200,000 Rwandan Francs, which helped me pay for my children's school fees. I continued to increase my savings and investments because I saw the benefits of being part of MCDC.
I also started a vegetable farming business (growing vegetables and maize) and cultivated in a garden since I had not been involved in farming before due to a lack of skills and resources. With determination and the need for income, I was able to earn 75,000 Rwandan Francs, especially since the Musanze market demanded fresh vegetables at good prices, including 40,000 Rwandan Francs from this venture. The money I earned helped me build my house.
The MCDC group has been a great support system for me. Currently, my children are studying well, and one of them has completed university and is looking for a job. Moreover, I am now saving three thousand Rwandan Francs per week, which is a considerable increase from my initial savings.
I am a vegetable farmer, and I am doing well in this business. I see a future in agriculture, and I intend to venture into potato farming in the next season, thanks to the support I have received from MCDC.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to MCDC for their support and the opportunities they have provided. The grant I received for the 2023-2024 season is 150,000 Rwandan Francs, which I plan to invest in potato farming.
